Dear Mr. Wright:

As the president of NBC, it must make you very proud when your network is able to produce quality programming such as the new show "Freaks And Geeks". It is fantastic that NBC, under your direction, had the foresight to create such a wonderful show for the American viewing public. "Freaks And Geeks" is an important show, and NBC should be commended for putting it on the air.

"Freaks And Geeks" is more than just a funny, touching, and true-to-life dramedy about the foibles of high school students in the early 1980's. It reaches far beyond that, to a more universal plateau. It is a watershed for the high school disenfranchised, the silent majority that did not captain the football team to an all-city title, or lead cheers for the team all along the way. The characters in "Freaks And Geeks" are real. Everything the characters say and do seems like it has been taken from the real-life experiences of "Freaks" and "Geeks" everywhere.

What all other "high school" shows before it have missed, "Freaks And Geeks" hits with the ultimate bulls-eye. Instead of speaking below, or above its audience, the show speaks directly to it. Watching "Freaks And Geeks" is not like watching any other program. The audience knows what is going to happen to the characters, not because the show is predictable, but because the show is real. The events do not occur like a regular show, they occur like regular life. For anyone who was a "Freak" or a "Geek" in high school (and that is most of us), this is absolutely refreshing. It validates our lives. It helps us see that others went through the same horrible crap that we did, and miraculously, helps us laugh at it. "Freaks and Geeks" is more than just great TV; it is wonderfully therapeutic in a way no other TV show has ever been.

With all these great things going for "Freaks And Geeks", it is sad to see that NBC has been constantly pre-empting it and moving it around the schedule. This show deserves a good, permanent timeslot where viewers can get to know the show and the characters. Anything less is doing a disservice to the amazing actors and creative team behind the show, as well as all the viewers who love the show, and those who have not discovered it yet.

You are well aware that we live in an era that is infinitely more media-saturated than anyone could ever imagined when TV was introduced to the public in the 1950s. With hundreds cable/satellite channels, millions of web-sites, thousands of video games, and $100 Million average-budget movies, Americans have more distractions then they could possibly ever investigate. Cheap reality-shows and copycat game shows are just not going to attract much attention anymore. NBC needs shows like "Freaks And Geeks" that have struck a chord with their audience. Instead of preemptions, NBC needs to nurture "Freaks And Geeks" and promote it like it promotes "Friends" and "ER". NBC needs to show the world that it knows it has a fantastic gem on its hands with "Freaks And Geeks", and pull-out-all-the-stops to get behind it.

Mr. Wright, NBC has managed to cultivate a core audience that is wild about "Freaks And Geeks". These core fans have been doing as much as possible to help the show. They watch the show every week (when it's on). They buy the products of the sponsors, and they tell them how much they appreciate them supporting quality television like "Freaks And Geeks". They tell all of their friends about the show, and try to get everyone they know to watch it. Now it is NBC's turn to take it to the next level. Give "Freaks And Geeks" a permanent timeslot, promote the hell out of it, and renew the show for next season. Anything less would be a travesty.

Sincerely,
